Who is St. George’s namesake? A larger-than-life LDS apostle who never lived there and remains an enigma.
No, St. George is not named after George Washington. Nor is it named in honor of former LDS Church President George Albert Smith. Rather, that distinction falls to an earlier George Albert Smith, a colorful apostle who never actually lived in the southern Utah city.
