The true fake story behind the annual Virginia City Camel Race

Back in the 1950s, a newspaper editor in Nevada wrote a fake story about a camel race happening in his town as a joke. Eventually, he helped make it a real thing and the annual Virginia City Camel Race was born, which continues to this day.
