What is This, My Son Tom

When young English aristocrats embarked on the Grand Tour in the 18th century, their journey took them from comfort to terror, from terror to pleasure, from civilization to ruins—ultimately bringing a small but influential contingent home transformed in gloriously unexpected ways. Inspired by a forgotten moment in genderqueer history—when the so-called Macaroni Men fascinated 1770s London—this experimental performance constructs bodies of ornament and excess, publicly assembled and dissected, playfully exposing the authentic self as just another costume.

Christian A. Johnson Artist-in-Residence Adam Samuel Goldman and Assistant Professor Hank Bamberger will develop the piece with Dr. Bamberger's dance students.

About An Agreeable Kind of Horror
An Agreeable Kind of Horror is a multi-program project by Adam Samuiel Goldman '94, this year's Christian A. Johnson Artist in Residence.

Goldman's residency began with the transformation of the Clifford Gallery in Little Hall into the artist's workshop and studio on Aug. 27, and ends with an experimental dance performance, conceived by Goldman and choreographed by Assistant Professor Hank Bamberger, in the EEP Vault on Dec. 2 - 3.

Goldman's residency and An Agreeable Kind of Horror are hosted by the Department of Art, and in collaboration with departments, faculty, and students from across the Colgate campus.
