Prismatic Bower: Beneath/Between - A Collaborative Installation

Using video and picture works, relics, and objects suspended and reflected so that the room itself becomes a prism, this piece will be installed over three to four days during the residency week and will be open to visitors as it is built.

The work hybridizes two often-silenced experiences of embodiment — the medical under-recognition of endometriosis and female reproductive health, where women’s pain is repeatedly met with clinical inaction; and forms of queer masculinity dismissed as illegitimate or “not real.” Holding these together, the project asks how bodies and identities that go unseen or unaddressed can instead be witnessed, validated, and made generative. It is orchestrated collaboratively by Dr. Kate March and Dr. Hank Bamberger, joining March’s video and performance research with Bamberger’s queer research through Killer Heels Practice.

Grounded in movement, film, poetry, and site-responsive performance, the week explores how embodied artistic practice can articulate lived experiences of chronic pain, particularly endometriosis and other forms of invisible or fluctuating disability. Throughout the week, the residency presents a public talk, a hands-on workshop, a collaborative installation, and a live outdoor performance, alongside new choreographic work created with Colgate students. All public events are free and open to campus and the Hamilton community.
