Convocation

This is one of Colgate’s most important traditions, occurring at the culmination of New Student Orientation and dating back more than 100 years. The evening begins with dinner with your Commons and concludes with Convocation. This is the official start to Colgate’s academic year and the moment when you will meet your faculty for the first time. It is one final time to gather with your class before your academic journey begins tomorrow. A formal procession, with the faculty in academic regalia and bagpipes, will follow dinner and will lead you to the Founder’s Day Convocation inside Memorial Chapel as the sun begins to set.
