About this event

AI-Powered Machine Learning for Research Across the University is a two-day workshop for faculty and students designed to introduce participants to practical machine learning techniques for research data analysis, including data preparation, model training, and results assessment.

The workshop is designed to be approachable regardless of academic discipline, previous experience with AI, machine learning, or programming. No prior machine learning or programming experience will be required, as participants will learn to use and critically evaluate generative AI tools for building and customizing machine learning pipelines.

Workshop sessions will emphasize hands-on application, with participants encouraged to bring their own research data. ITS will provide technical support during and after the workshop, and will have laptops available for participants, if needed. The workshop will also include access to Claude AI to use during the sessions. There will be a break for lunch and additional breaks during the morning and afternoon sessions for coffee/snacks.

This workshop is funded through a 2026 Picker ISI Interdisciplinary Training Workshop Grant awarded to Assistant Professor of Computer Science Noah Apthorpe, who will lead the sessions along with Professor of Biology and Mathematics and Picker ISI Director Ahmet Ay, ITS Systems and Security Operations Engineer Tolga Dincer, and Associate Director of Research and High Performance Computing Kai Tsoukalas.

Participation is limited, and registration is now open for faculty and students using this form. The workshop registration deadline is Aug. 21.

For additional information or questions, please contact Noah Apthorpe at napthorpe@colgate.edu or Ahmet Ay at aay@colgate.edu.
