About Brooklyn

Brooklyn is the most populous of New York City's five boroughs and is coextensive with Kings County, occupying the western tip of Long Island. An independent city until it consolidated into Greater New York in 1898, it keeps a strong identity of its own, from the brownstone streets of Park Slope and Fort Greene to the waterfront of DUMBO and Red Hook, the boardwalk at Coney Island, and the immigrant neighborhoods of Sunset Park, Flatbush and Brighton Beach. Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Brooklyn Bridge, which linked the borough to Manhattan in 1883, are among its landmarks.
