Citrus County
Citrus County is located on the west central coast of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the county had a population of 153,843. The county seat is Inverness, and its largest community is Homosassa Springs. Citrus County was created in 1887 and was named for the county’s citrus trees, which were a major industry in the county. The area covered by present-day Citrus County is thought to have been first occupied at least 10,000 years ago. The county is known for its rich historical culture and variety of shops, water recreation, golfing, and dining experiences, making it one of the most enjoyable places on the west coast. Today, Citrus County is part of the Homosassa Springs, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.
